Cholesterol is necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Cholesterol can be good or bad for us. Since our body produces most of our cholesterol, it can't all be bad. The rest of the cholesterol in us comes in the form of food consumption.

Heart disease, heart attacks and strokes are often associated with cholesterol; however, there is good and bad cholesterol. If the levels aren't within the norms, the above results often happen.

As stated before, cholesterol is completely normal. It is used to produce cells and hormones. Since cholesterol is a somewhat waxy, soft substance found in your bloodstream, if there is too much present, it puts you at higher risk for some illnesses.

As stated previously, cholesterol is produced by your body and consumed through food. 25% of the cholesterol in your body comes from the food you eat. The rest of it is produced by your liver and other cells.

The cholesterol that increases your risk of heart attack or stroke is known as LDL. This cholesterol has a tendency to clog arteries when there is too much of it.

Genetics play a role in your cholesterol levels. Your body may create too much LDL because of your genetics. The foods you eat that have high quantities of trans or saturated fats will raise your cholesterol levels. If your family has a history of high cholesterol, watching what you eat may not be enough to lower your cholesterol levels.

Your blood requires lipoproteins to carry cholesterol to and from cells because it cannot be absorbed by the blood. Lipoproteins fall into two categories. The first is low-density lipoprotein, or LDL the bad cholesterol. The second, known as high-density lipoprotein, or HDL is good for you. These proteins along with cholesterol and triglycerides are what your cholesterol count is made of.

Arteries start to clog up if LDL levels are high. The combination of high LDL levels combining with other material results in plaque build up in the arteries. Plaque hardens the arteries.

Heart attacks can be prevented by HDL, or good cholesterol. The downside is that if your HDL levels fall below the normal levels, you are placed at higher risk for heart attacks.

Many people hold to common beliefs in regards to cholesterol.

The intestines and liver control LDL levels. Diet and exercise will help but will not completely lower the levels to normal range.

Using margarine instead of butter is not going to lower cholesterol. Both of these are high in certain kinds of fat. Since trans and saturated fats determine what your cholesterol levels are do not over use food high in these fats. Just changing to margarine is not going to help.

High cholesterol can affect anyone no matter how much you weigh.

Ultimately, you are responsible for your health. If you are worried about your cholesterol levels, ask your doctor if they believe it should be tested.

Most food that is low in cholesterol is more than likely going to be high in fat. Read the food labels before buying it.

Just because you take medication for high cholesterol, doesn't mean that you don't need to watch what you eat.

You will need to make sure that too much light does not get into your reservoir because this can cause algae build up and this is not a good thing when you are wanting to build a hydroponics system.

you will be using the Styrofoam as a floater to see how far down the water has gone to the bottom of the reservoir. Adding a line to the bottom of your reservoir with painters tape before you paint it can help you to easily see how far down the water is filled. Try to use a reservoir that is the same in height and width.

You should cut the Styrofoam to fit the reservoir almost perfectly. You should cut it to where it will be able to move around freely as the water level goes up and down. For instance you should leave about an inch or an inch and a half in between the walls of the reservoir and your Styrofoam.

Make sure your Styrofoam is smaller than your reservoir when you cut it to size. Make sure it is cut small enough that it will be able to rise with ease and not get caught on the reservoir walls. If it gets caught then it will not allow you to see how high or low the water level is. - 31875

Are bread machine mixes any good? Yes, some of them are, but the problem with all bread machine mixes is that they limit your choice and discourage your creative talents. That may sound a little harsh, but think about it for a minute. If you rely on bread machine mixes you can only make the bread for which you can find a bread machine mix and you can only put the bread machine mix in the bowl and switch the bread making machine on. You are not encouraged to alter the bread machine mix for fear that it won't work.

OK, what is the alternative? Well, the old-fashioned recipe book, of course! Not any old cookbook, but a special bread making machine recipe book. Bread making is a very simple, but rather tiresome process. The ingredients are commonplace, household items: water, flour, yeast, salt, sugar and oil. You certainly have those items in your cupboard with the possible exception of the yeast, which can be bought almost anywhere at minimal cost.

And I'm sure you already know what happens when you cook following a recipe, don't you? You have already read the recipe through and you know you have everything in the cupboard, but when the recipe requires, let's say, lemon peel, you open the cupboard door and see that you don't have any lemons - but you do have orangess! Oh, well you think, oranges'll do. You make do. You try things out. And that means that you are developing your talent and creativity. Bread making mixes will not do that for you.

A good bread making machine cookbook will have well over 100 recipes originating from several countries and you will get really enthusiastic about trying the different ones out. Have you eaten Welsh bread - Bara Brith? Or Amish bread? Cajun bread or onion bread? Banana bread is lovely too, but one of my favourites is Brazil Nut Bread - absolutely scrumptious.

The point is that you may not find recipes for all these breads in one place, but if you have a reference point, like a bread recipe cookbook, you can start off by using tried and tested gourmet bread recipes and gradually concoct your own - sometimes out of necessity.

I once made a fantastic loaf by adding all the left-over vegetables from my Sunday lunch. It was lovely, but I could never quite reproduce it, because I did not write down the weights and measures. I could only remember that it had green beans, potatoes and sweet corn in it!

Bread machine mixes will never in a million years give you that, will they? And bread machine mixes are relatively expensive compared to the cost of five kilos of flour. I always vary the ingredients too: honey instead of sugar, milk instead of water, olive oil or butter instead of say, corn oil. Rock salt instead of sea salt or visa versa. You get the picture.

Bread machine mixes are not only limited but limiting too. Furthermore, a bread making machine is a great way to use up leftovers. I have added meat and fruit in my gourmet bread many times. My guiding principle is: if it'll go in a sandwich it'll go in the dough - like an Indian stuffed paratha or stuffed naan bread.
