What You Will Need:

* Lard or olive oil, for greasing

* 1 level tsp salt

* 9oz/250g of plain flour

* 8fl oz/225ml buttermilk or live yoghurt

* 2 tsp soft brown sugar

* 1 level tsp bicarbonate soda

How To Make:

1. Pre-heat your oven to 445F/230C. Grease a baking sheet with the lard or oil.

2. Sift the flour, bicarbonate of soda and the salt into the bowl, then add in the sugar.

3. Mix the yoghurt or buttermilk in using a wooden spoon. Then kneed it into a dough using your hands, until it is soft and firm. If the mixture feels too wet or sticky, simply add more flour.

4. Lightly kneed the dough in the bowl for approximately 30 seconds, until it's smooth, and then shape it into a ball, making it as deep as possible. Put onto the greased baking sheet, and cut a deep X in top with a knife. This lets the bread to expand as the soda begins to work.

5. Put into the oven and bake for about 12 minutes, then bring the heat of the oven down to 200C/400F and cook for another 15-20 minutes. Once ready, the base of the bread should sound hollow if you tap it.

The popular name for the 'Atkins Nutritional Approach' is the 'Atkins Diet', which was the brainchild of Doctor Robert Atkins. How to Make the Pita Bread

2. Rub the inside of the frying pan with an oily paper towel, then let the pan sit for about ten minutes.

3. Place the frying pan on a hob at medium-low heat, and wait about 3 minutes before pouring the batter into the middle of the pan.

4. Tilt the frying pan in a circular motion until the whole of the bottom of the pan is covered with the desired thickness of batter.

5. Once the top of the mixture has gone dry, flip it over and cook the other side. This should take about a minute on each side.

6. Eat.

As obesity climbs to epic proportions in this country, it's not impossible to believe that our parents and grandparents, for the most part, ate much better than we do now. The trouble with all this is that these foods that cause so much damage to our bodies are just so good! It seems the better they taste the worse they are for our health. Even though we all know that fresh green vegetables are the way to go, many of us can't gag down broccoli without a stick of butter or half pound of melted cheese on top... Killing the entire reason for eating the broccoli to begin with.

First you must preheat the oven as stated on the package that the ham was in. Then bake the ham as instructed from the cooking directions on the package. About 45 minutes prior to the ham being completely cooked, remove it from the oven. Arrange the pineapple slices on top of the ham and hold them with the cloves. If you are not using cloves, then use toothpicks. Put a cherry in the middle of each pineapple slice and hold them with a toothpick or clove. In a bowl, mix the mustard, brown sugar, and the juice from the can of pineapples to make the glaze for the ham. Bake the ham for 30 minutes. Take the ham out of the oven and it is ready to be carved.

Rum Ball Recipe: This recipe is a delicious holiday treat. Ingredients include 200 g (7 oz) finely ground shortbread cookies, 200 g (7 oz) butter, melted, 50 g (1.7 oz) cocoa, 300 g (10 oz) powdered sugar, 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, 1 tsp rum, and 1-2 eggs. There are different terms used to let you know just how organic the particular food is that you are considering buying. If it is 100% organic, that is exactly how it will be labeled. If the product just says organic, than it is at least 95% so. If the food has between 70% and 95%, it can be labeled made with organic ingredients.

Organic farming is believed to be less harmful to the environment as it does not use synthetic pesticides that can then be damaging to the water, the earth and surrounding animals. They encourage the health of the ecosystems, especially as they often rely on birds and insects for reducing populations of harmful pests. Organic farms also use less energy and produce fewer waste products.

Some critics argue that organic farming produces less with the same amount of land than conventional farming methods. However, further studies indicate that, worldwide this is not true. In developed countries such as the United States they do produce less. In other countries, however, they actually produce more. The implication is that if the world were using organic farming methods, there would be no concern over yield.

Though there is some conflicting evidence, there are definitely studies that prove soil farmed organically has more nutrients and therefore yields more nutritious foods. Part of this is the fact that no chemicals are used. Another factor is that organic farming normally uses the method of crop rotation which has been used throughout history to improve soil quality.

Conventional farming methods have resulted in food that contains less and less nutrients over the years. An apple grown today, by any method, does not contain the same level of nutrition as an apple grown 100 years ago. But there is evidence that you can increase your nutritive intake by eating organically grown foods as much as possible. As far as exposure to toxins, even if you wash conventionally grown produce, there are still chemicals that have been absorbed into the fruit or vegetable.

What is the history and Origin of Type 2 Diabetes?

Diabetes has been one of the most shattering diseases known to man, and it has been acknowledged for over two thousand years, but there is no account of type 2 diabetes, or any other demarcation between different types of diabetes, until the twentieth century. It was not until 1935 that it was revealed that there were multiple types of diabetes, and it could be said that this is where the history of type 2 diabetes actually began.

Roger Hinsworth made the remarkable discovery in 1935 that there were, in fact, two different types of diabetes. Those which were sensitive to insulin (Type 1), and those that were not (Type 2). This breakthrough was finally made possible by the relatively recent discovery of insulin in 1921, and presumably came about when doctors noticed that insulin injections were having less of an effect on some diabetes patients. In the 1950's, a new medication was developed that is considered to be the beginnings of the history of type 2 diabetes treatments. Before now, there was no history of type 2 diabetes treatment whatsoever, so those with type 2 had to make due with simply using more insulin in hopes that their cells would absorb enough.

Type 2 diabetes history has pretty much run alongside that of type 1. Urine strips were introduced in the 1960s, making it easier than any other time in the history of type 2 diabetes to detect the amount of insulin in the body. This made it far simpler for people to manage their diabetes. In 1961, one time use syringes were introduced to the market, eliminating the need for the thick, durable early syringes that were had to be boiled to be cleaned, sharpened regularly, and were prone to developing painful barbs.

Ames Diagnostics created portable glucose meters in 1969 as a method to determine if an unconscious patient was diabetic or just drunk. Although these original meters weighed around three pounds, more recent technologies have reduced the size to that of a hand held calculator.

Insulin pumps, considered to mimic the natural insulin production of the human body, were produced in the late 70's, and were initially carried by patients as a backpack type setup. Technology has impacted these as well, and they are now little enough to clip onto a belt or pocket. Much more recently, oral medications have been released that do the job of insulin pumps, making it so that many diabetics just have to take a pill to control their insulin.
